Recovery isn’t a rest day. It’s a process

Good morning Athletes,

You’ve probably been told recovery is important. And it is. But here’s the part most people miss.

Recovery isn’t a single rest day. It’s not doing nothing and hoping your body sorts itself out. It’s not lying on the sofa for a few hours and calling that recovery.

Recovery is a daily process. It’s the small habits that happen between training, between work stress, between the chaos of everyday life. That’s what helps your body actually repair and feel better.

Here’s what I see all the time.

Someone trains hard. Works long hours. Doesn’t sleep properly. Grabs food when they can. Skips recovery because they think it’s a waste of time. Then they wonder why their body still feels stiff, sore, and tired.

They take a day off and expect it to fix everything. But it never does.

Because one rest day won’t fix six days of stress, poor sleep, and zero movement outside the gym.

Recovery needs consistency. Just like training does.

Here’s what real recovery looks like when it’s done properly:

  • Sleep. Seven to nine hours. Every night. Not just once a week.

  • Hydration. Drinking enough water. Not just living off caffeine.

  • Nutrition. Actual food. Protein. Colour. Meals that help you rebuild.

  • Breathing. Slowing down. Calming your nervous system.

  • Walking. Low effort. High reward. Helps clear your head and loosen your body.

  • Mobility. A few focused minutes a day. Not random stretching.

  • Recovery mindset. Knowing when to push and when to pull back. That’s the skill most people ignore.

If you can get most of these right most of the time, you’ll feel a big difference in your body. You’ll move better. You’ll train better. You’ll recover quicker. And you won’t feel like your body is working against you all the time.

The people I coach who get the best results aren’t the ones who train the hardest. They’re the ones who train smart and recover well. That’s what keeps them progressing without falling apart.

If you’re not sure where to start, I offer a free 30 minute consultation. It’s available in person or online. We’ll talk through what’s going on with your body and what the next steps could look like for you. No pressure. Just a proper conversation.

I also run a free WhatsApp community where I share weekly training ideas, mobility tips, and ways to help you stay consistent with your recovery and movement. It’s not salesy or spammy. Just real, helpful support.

And if you're ready to take it further, I offer coaching both in person and online. Whether you want to train in the gym with me, get a plan built around your goals, or need help fixing ongoing pain, I’ve got space for new clients and I’d love to help.

Just reply to this email if you want to book your consultation, join the WhatsApp group, or ask about coaching. I’ll send everything over personally.

Next week, I’ll be writing about breathing. How the way you breathe could be keeping your shoulders tight and your lower back tense. And how to fix it.
